An AnonymSMS alternative: private numbers instead of public inboxes
Free receive-SMS sites like AnonymSMS work by publishing a handful of numbers and displaying every message those numbers receive, to anybody who loads the page. For reading a throwaway code on something you do not care about, that is fine, and it costs nothing.
The problems start the moment the account matters. Everyone can see your code, including whoever wants to take the account over. The numbers have been used for the same service thousands of times, so strict platforms stopped delivering to them long ago. And you cannot reuse the number for a password reset later, because you never had it.

Anon SMS vs AnonymSMS, side by side
Written from public information and our own product. Where AnonymSMS is the better choice, that is said plainly below the table.
| Anon SMS | AnonymSMS | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can read your code | Only you, on your own activation page | Anyone visiting the site — inboxes are public by design |
| Cost | A few cents per number from a $5 wallet | Free |
| Delivery on strict services | Choose a fresh range; failed codes refund automatically | Heavily used public numbers are widely blocked |
| Account security afterwards | The number is yours alone for the activation window | Anyone can trigger and read a password reset |

The security problem is not theoretical
A public SMS inbox is a public account-takeover queue. If you verify an account with a shared number, anyone who knows your username can request a password reset and read the code on the same page you did.
That is the whole reason renting a number costs money: exclusivity for the window you need it. A private number for a few cents is cheaper than losing the account you just created.
Why free numbers stop working
A public number used for the same platform thousands of times is the easiest possible pattern for that platform to detect. So it stops delivering — you sit watching an inbox that will never show your code.
Paid ranges rotate, and price tracks how heavily a range has been used. On our tables, a mid-priced country is the practical sweet spot for strict services; and if the code still does not arrive, you are refunded rather than left guessing.
AnonymSMS alternative — common questions
Why pay when sites like AnonymSMS are free?
Because free numbers are public: every code they receive is visible to everyone, which makes account takeover trivial, and the numbers are so heavily used that strict services no longer deliver to them. A rented number is private for your activation window and refunded if no code arrives.
Can I use a free number then switch to a private one?
You can, but you would have to re-verify the account, and some services will not let you change a number without a code sent to the old one. Start with a private number for anything you plan to keep.
How long do I have to enter the code?
The number stays yours for about 20 minutes, which is longer than any verification screen keeps its own timer open. If the code has not arrived by the time the number expires, the charge is returned to your wallet automatically.
Do I pay if no code arrives?
No. You are charged when a code is delivered. If the SMS never lands before the number expires, or you cancel the number after the two-minute grace period because the service rejected it, the full amount goes straight back to your wallet balance.
How do I pay for numbers?
You top up a wallet once — card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or crypto, from $5 — and each number is a small one-off charge against that balance. There is no subscription and the balance does not expire.
